Deadbeat's gameplay is heavily influenced by Everhood; you move your character, leap, and counterattack as numerous beats are thrown at you in time with the music. They are all accompanied by distinctive pixel art backgrounds and animations, and the music in question is by Mori Calliope.
All but the first level are currently quite impossible to accomplish on the default settings due to the beat arrangement and the fact that your character's jumping seems a bit sluggish. Although it's not ideal, you can enable the limitless lives mode so that you can play the game without worrying about dying in the opening few beats of every song.
It's a neat little game, but perhaps the developer will lower the complexity in the future to make it more accessible to regular people. Deadbeat's pixel art is obviously the result of a lot of work, and the game's soundtrack complements the gameplay perfectly.
